History of KICS
Stuart Hertzog, author, journalist, technical writer and web site designer founded the Kootenay Internet Communications Society (KICS) in 1996. Stuart formed the Society to bring knowledge of the Internet to individuals, businesses, and organizations and to accelerate the acceptance and use of the Internet.
KICS' first project was building public Internet access sites around Nelson in 1997. A project made possible by Industry Canada's Community Access Program. KICS placed public internet sites in the Nelson Municipal Library, the Dancing Bear Inn, Sidewinders Café, the Internet Café and the Nelson & District Youth Centre.
This project continues and computers are presently available at the Café Americano in Trail. See Public Internet for location info.

Email and web site hosting service for not-for-profit organizations
Kootenay Communities Connect, which provided free web hosting, web site design, email accounts, and basic Internet training to non-profit organizations
